Oxbridge and Medical Offers
Oxbridge
In the Sixth Form, we encourage all pupils with outstanding GCSE results to consider an application to either Cambridge or Oxford universities. For some pupils, it might be that their ambitions lie elsewhere; however, for those who do wish to make an application, we provide a range of support and guidance.
Our aim is to help Oxbridge aspirants to demonstrate their academic potential in the most effective possible way in their applications. We bring together prospective Oxbridge applicants on a weekly basis to discuss their academic reading, research and interests; and in these meetings we also give guidance on appropriate course choice and how to put in the best possible application. We also provide practice for admissions tests and also organise mock interviews.
Over the past two years, Oakhamians received Oxbridge offers from:

Medical/clinical courses
Around a dozen Form 7 pupils apply for clinical courses – mainly medicine – each year. We have a busy programme of events and activities for students considering clinical courses, including the Royal School of Medicine Careers Day (held at Oakham), lectures, mock interviews, personal statement workshops and more. Every two years, we also run a practical work experience trip to Costa Rica, where students run health clinics for local residents, measuring blood pressure, BMI and glucose.
There are Old Oakhamians training to be doctors, veterinary surgeons and dentists at Bristol, Imperial College, Nottingham and Sheffield, among many other UK universities. In addition, former pupils regularly receive offers to study medicine abroad.
