Sport has always been an integral part of Oakham School life. Sports fixtures, tours, and training sessions all make up part of Oakham’s total curriculum and add to the vibrant atmosphere of the School. Sport at Oakham School allows Oakhamians to learn about self-motivation, discipline and team work, as well as how to deal with success and failure with equal grace and dignity, which are crucial elements to ensure they are prepared in the best possible way for life after they leave the School. We value participation as well as achievement and celebrate every Oakhamian’s sporting journey.
Oakham School has a rich history of developing sportsmen and sportswomen who have gone on to achieve great sporting success. Rugby stars such as Alex Goode (06), Hamish Watson (10), Tom Croft (04), Lewis Moody (96) and Matt Smith (04) all honed their sporting talent whilst studying at Oakham, as well as cricketer Tom Fell (12),and hockey players Kathryn Lane (13) and Crista Cullen MBE (03). We want to offer more young sportsmen and sportswomen the opportunity to fulfil their potential and benefit from the coaching, facilities, and way of life at Oakham School through Sport Scholarships.
Supporting Sport Scholarships at Oakham is a very rewarding way to help us achieve our vision of excellence and inclusivity, and to help develop the sport stars of tomorrow. Our target for the first phase of our campaign is to raise £50,000 for Sport Scholarships, which will support two Elite Pathway Sport Scholars through Form 6 and Form 7. Phase two of the campaign will see the spotlight turn onto further capital development projects for sport, further enhancing the £2.2 million that has been invested in sporting facilities over the last three years.
For many years Oakham has been rightly regarded as one of the country's leading schools when it comes to the provision of a genuinely all-round education. There is little doubt that sport plays an integral part in the rich tapestry of many Oakhamian lives.
