From the Head Girl

Head Girl

My name is Catherine and I have the privilege of being one of the Heads of School this year. I started at Oakham in the second term of Form 3, in Hambleton House. I am currently studying Politics, Geography and Sport Science at A-level, and plan to study Human Geography at University. I am part of the school Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and will be completing my gold Duke of Edinburgh award through the CCF this year, which has taken us to Norway over the summer. I also represent the school in several sports at first team level.

Moving to Oakham from South Africa in the Christmas holiday of Form 3 was a huge change but I was welcomed so warmly by the girls in my house and my housemistress Mrs Healey and it wasn’t long before I felt very much at home. Getting involved in all aspects of life at Oakham really helped me to settle in and playing several different sports at Oakham has given me the opportunity to meet so many different people beyond the classroom and in different years. I played Lacrosse for the first time last winter and although I have much to learn I have so enjoyed this new experience.

I have been really fortunate to go on a number of incredible school trips. The sports tour to South Africa in 2017 was definitely a highlight as was the History trip to Berlin and Poland which brought the classroom to life in such a meaningful way.

Getting involved and putting yourself out there, even if that means stepping out of your comfort zone will definitely help you to make the most of your time at Oakham. Grab the incredible opportunities on offer with both hands.
