From the Deputy Head Girl

My name is Lucy and I am this year's Deputy Head Girl. I joined Oakham in Lower 1 in Ancaster House, making this my 8th year at Oakham. I moved into Gunthorpe for Middle school and my final year will be in Round house. House life has been probably the best part of my time at Oakham and made me feel like part of a family while being at school. I am currently studying Art, Sport Science and Business at A-level. I hope to do a Gap year before aiming to study Business and Marketing at university. My time at Oakham is rather quickly coming to an end, however, I can confidently say, I have made the most of every opportunity, making my time here so memorable. I would like to encourage everyone to try new things and take every opportunity they can. Oakham life is extremely busy; however, I encourage everyone to get involved in whatever they are passionate about. I have played netball throughout my time at Oakham and have been fortunate to play in a National Final and aim to play in the 1st team next year. Furthermore, Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is something I would encourage anyone to do as it has allowed me to gain confidence and develop skills I would otherwise not have. I aim to complete my Gold DofE this summer in Norway, which is one of many fantastic opportunities the CCF has provided. I believe there is something for everyone at Oakham. Regardless of whether you think you are bad at something, I recommend getting involved and trying new things, by doing so you will create long-lasting memories and make friends. I have been lucky enough to go on a few of many of Oakham’s life-changing trips. In Form 4 I had the chance to go on a sports tour to South Africa. This trip allowed me to develop better relationships with my friends and teachers as well as experiencing fantastic sporting facilities. My advice for any new Oakhamians would be to try something new and throw yourself into anything that is offered to you. You may discover a new talent and do not be afraid of failure.
