Strength and Conditioning

i/c Nathan Stockley

Strength and Conditioning is an integral part of improving sport, by improving levels of strength, cardiovascular endurance, speed and agility, balance, co-ordination, posture, and probably most importantly, to help the prevention of injuries. Male and female students from all sports can use strength and conditioning to improve performance in their sport

 Warm up

Before taking part in any training session, students should go through a structured warm up

Strength Training

Strength training is used to improve sports performance, posture, self esteem, and to reduce the chances of injury. Children of all ages can improve their strength with bodyweight training. In the 5th form, students are inducted into the schools weight training room, and given an induction program they can follow before moving onto an individual program.

 Metabolic conditioning

Metabolic conditioning refers to the conditioning training you would do to improve your sports specific cardiovascular fitness, as well as training you can do to improve your general health and lose weight

Speed and agility

Speed and agility are essential components to sport, and can be practised as part of the sports warm up, or in an individual session

 Injury prevention

Athletes and non-athletes can all use injury prevention methods to help them stay healthy and reduce the risk of injury. Methods include core stability training and prehabilitation exercises, flexibility, and self myofascial release
