Golf
Master-in-charge Mr Iain Simpson
Oakham School Golf offers pupils an exceptional opportunity to develop their sporting talent in tandem with a first-class, all-round education.
The school golf programme has continued to go from strength to strength over the last 10 years. Today over 30 boys and girls play each week at 3 different locations focusing on all aspects of the game of golf and the relationship it plays in their wider life.
Our elite golfers play up to 5 times a week at Luffenham Heath Golf Club. They play to bespoke golf programmes tailored around their academic subjects. Emphasis is placed on rehabilitation, course management and life after Oakham Golf as well as just simply improving their own playing abilities.
All golfers can compete for places in the 3 teams that we currently put out. We play in the Independent Schools Golf Association (ISGA) as well as the HMC Foursomes competition. Opportunities arise for our players to compete at the Shire Golf Course in London, as well as to play in the National Finals of such school competitions held at the likes of Open course Carnoustie.
Oakham have reached the ISGA finals in the past and thus students have had the chance of pitting their abilities against the best school golfers in the country at venues including St. Andrews. We have a rich pedigree in golfers leaving Oakham to pursue careers in golf, including OO’s who are currently in PGA training.
The future for Oakham Golf is very promising. An academy structure will be in place with players being given the opportunities to become exceptional golfers as well as the opportunity to leave Oakham with a career specific path in place, either directly related to golf or based on students experiences of golf at Oakham.
