Two Oakhamians Compete in National Indoor Hockey Finals

U18 Indoor Hockey Final 1Two Oakham pupils qualified to compete in the National Indoor Hockey Finals which take place this weekend, Sunday 31st Jan, at the Trent Arena, Nottingham. Both girls, Alice Page (Rushebrookes 6th form - No15 in the photo) and Abi Stephenson (Rushebrookes 4th form) are representing Beeston Hockey Club in the U18 and U16 National final respectively. This is a fantastic opportunity for both girls to play at the highest level possible, in front of a large crowd and has been the culmination of a number of weeks hard work, with County, Regional and National Tournaments being played, and only the final itself to come.

U18 Report:
U18 Indoor Hockey Final 2Last weekend I was lucky enough to be part of the U18 Beeston Indoor Hockey team who have managed to get through to the National Finals of the Indoor Hockey Tournament which includes teams from different regions across England. Last weekend had several teams which were made up into two pools. After playing 4 games, Beeston had come out on top of our pool with a clean sweep of wins. This took us to the semi finals where we played a very close match only clearing our win in the last few seconds where a short corner to the opposing team was missed and so we won one goal ahead. This meant that we have got through to the National Finals which are taking place this weekend in Trent Arena, Nottingham. It is an amazing experience the this Sunday will be very exciting as the day will consist of all finals in all age groups, boys and girls. I feel privileged to be part of such a great team and club and I wait in anticipation for this Sunday to come around.

U16 Report:

I was very lucky to have the opportunity to play in the Indoor Nationals for the side of U16 Beeston. This was a new game that I had learnt, a very challenging one. Our U16 team was very strong and we were lucky to have to have such a great coach Nat. On the day, we played some really strong teams and we managed to win 1, draw 1, and lose 1. This got us through to the semi-finals. We managed to win the semis which put us through to the finals, which are to be played on Sunday 31st January. I wish all the girls luck!
