The Mehra Faculty of Science
For the past 3 years, Oakham School Foundation has been focussed on securing funds to complete the state of the art Mehra Faculty of Science. Sanjeev Mehra, Old Oakhamian (78) and School Trustee, was awarded a scholarship to attend Oakham School in 1976, where his education created a lasting impression. Sanjeev studied Physics and Mathematics and witnessed first-hand the joy of learning to solve real world problems. By helping Oakham to build the state of the art Mehra Faculty of Science, Sanjeev is determined that Oakham’s legacy of leadership of the Sciences will give Oakham the ability to attract students from all segments of society in both the UK and internationally.
“Oakham has, over many years, established an outstanding reputation for developing and inspiring young scientists. This is, of course, not measured just by excellent results in public examinations but by the numbers of Oakhamians who had their scientific interests ignited at school and have gone on to read a pure or applied science subject(s) at university. At a time when studying sciences has become less fashionable in too many schools, it is all the more important that schools like Oakham remain torch bearers for our scientific future.” Dr John Pye, Head of Chemistry.
Mr Sanjeev Mehra (78)
Sanjeev Mehra (OO,78), School Trustee, was awarded a scholarship to attend Oakham School in 1976. He remembers his years at the school with gratitude and affection;
“Oakham exposed me to a world of academic rigour and excellence, but I also I learned a number of life lessons. The School sparked in me a desire to find my own way in life and to make a difference in everything I chose to spend my time on. These gifts have helped me immeasurably in everything I have done and continue to do.”“Oakham has, over many years, established an outstanding reputation for developing and inspiring young scientists. The Wilson Auditorium
Lynn Wilson attended Oakham between 1949 and 1957 and was so impressed with the education and support he received that he was compelled to leave a generous legacy to the School. The Wilson Foundation was founded in Lynn’s name and continues to support the School in a number of ways, including the opening of the Wilson Playing Fields in 2005, the Wilson Sports Scholarship and the opening of the Wilson Auditorium inside the new Mehra Faculty of Science. For further information about The Wilson Foundation, please visit their website.
The Wilson Auditorium was officially opened on 15 September 2011 and sits proudly within the new state of the art Mehra Faculty of Science. This impressive feature provides a first class teaching, lecture and presentation space for current and future Oakhamians. It has the capacity to seat 200 and features the most up to date audiovisual equipment.
