Prep School pupils make music at Oakham
2 October 2012
More than 200 boys and girls from visiting Prep Schools have enjoyed a day of making music and performing at Oakham.
Music plays a vital part in the life of Oakham School with over 80 concerts taking place each year. The Prep Schools Music Day has brought together musical pupils from nine different Prep Schools, who have taken part in rehearsals before performing in a special concert in the Oakham School chapel.
The concert has featured the world première of a new piece of music composed by Old Oakhamian Daniel Saleeb. A Boy Made of Bread, a piece for string ensemble, was commissioned specially for the concert.
The combined Prep Schools choir of over 150 voices sang before joining forces with the string players to perform Adiemus by Karl Jenkins.
During the concert the visitors also got a chance to hear the Oakham School Chamber Choir who were seen on BBC TV earlier in the year in the final stages of the BBC’s Songs of Praise Choir of the Year Competition.
