Gathering DataGeography makes you inquisitive
27 September 2012

Geography makes you inquisitive. Of that there can be no doubt as coachloads of fifth form GCSE students set off to gather data from Cambridge and Stratford upon Avon.  Geography is wonderfully popular amongst the student body and days like this help to ensure that it is rigorous, educational and fun.

Gathering DataNowadays half the course work is done with teacher supervision and guidance, this includes understanding the question, setting hypotheses, working out the appropriate methods to gather data and the graphic presentations.  Once this is complete the pupils go into exam conditions to complete the all-important analysis, evaluation and conclusions.  This controlled assessment is a real test of geographical understanding and the transferrable skills our pupils take from this set them up well for the work place.  No wonder so many pupils take geography at Oakham!
