OO Olympic Success
3 August 2012
Yesterday Crista Cullen (03) continued her Olympic success, along with the rest of Team GB Women’s Hockey team when they won 3 - 0 against Belgium. In order to secure their semi final spot they need to draw against China on Saturday. Good Luck Crista and Team GB.
After a 5 – 3 victory against South Korea on Tuesday 31 July Team GB Women’s Hockey team, along with Old Oakhamian, Crista Cullen (03) continued their winning streak.
On Sunday 29 July Crista Cullen (03), Great Britain’s Women Hockey team won 4-0 against Japan, became the third Old Oakhamian to appear in two Olympic Games, following the footsteps of Three Day Eventer Lawrence Arthur Rook (1952 Helsinki & 1956 Melbourne / Stockholm) and yachtman David Howlett (Montreal 1976 in the Finn class and Barcelona 1992 with Phil Lawrence in the Star class). Other OO Olympians have been F.H.Jerwood (stroke in the Rowing Eight at the 1908 London Olympics - Bronze) and L.K.Guest (Cox of the Thames Four at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics while still at School). David Howlett has been involved heavily in other Olympics, being coach to Mike McIntyre and Bryn Vaile at Seoul in 1988 where they won Gold, to Ian Percy in Sydney 2000 where he won Gold, and finally to Ben Ainslee (Gold in 2004 Athens and 2008 Bejing and now competing at the 2012 London Olympics).
