Head Girl
Name: Natalie Grundy Age: 17 House: Lincoln then Buchanans Hobbies: hockey, tennis, horse riding What is special about Oakham School? When I arrived at Oakham in the First Form back in 2003, the first thing I noticed was the homely feel that is always present. The people here have literally become my family and that is something I will always cherish. What are your favourite Oakham moments? I have had some amazing moments that I will never forget from sitting on a cold, windy beach with our tutors in Skegness at the end of GCSEs to bumping into the Australian rugby squad while we were on tour Down Under. What new things have you had a chance to do at Oakham? Coming to a school like Oakham has given me the chance to experience great adventures like going on the sports tour but it has also given me a chance to take part in activities like the Combined Cadet Force, which I really enjoy. What has been your biggest achievement here at Oakham? It is in CCF that I experienced one of my most memorable achievements. During a Service Weekend with just the Sixth Form, I was one of only two girls in the CCF. I led an exercise in which we took back our HQ from the enemy and the leadership and confidence I got from that experience (as well as getting to yell at the boys!) was brilliant. What do you want to do after Oakham? After Oakham I am planning on studying History at university, and where that will take me I do not know yet. Which teachers at Oakham have inspired you the most? The History Department here inspired my love of the subject as they are all so enthusiastic about it; we even have our own trench in one of the classrooms! What would you say to a pupil thinking of coming to Oakham? The one thing I would say to anyone thinking of coming to this school is take every chance that is given to you, you will get to experience things that you never thought possible and you will meet so many interesting people. That is the main thing that the school has given me: confidence.
