The Decem
Each year the Headmaster invites a number of Seventh Form pupils, from a list nominated by pupils and staff, to form the Decem. Members have a number of roles, including linking with Middle School Houses, limited 'authority' in terms of school rules and as ambassadors for the School. They are expected to uphold the highest standard of personal conduct and be role models for other pupils. The Decem team are understanding and proactive senior pupils who provide a link between the pupils and the staff in addition to The School Council. Where pupils have a problem or feel they would like a senior and respected pupil to make representations to staff on their behalf, the Decem may be able to help. While the team works closely together, many will have a specialist responsibility. For example, Jerwoods, environmental concerns and Chapel. The Decem not only helps pupils with issues, but also proactively encourages them to become involved in school events. Whenever there is an event that requires a team of assistants, the Decem will organise it and will look for pupils who would like to take part. The team is as committed as the staff in its desire for all pupils to fulfil their potential and invites all pupils to make contact and get involved. The Chair of the School Council is an ex officio member.
