Jerwoods is Oakham's Lower School
Oakham's Lower School is known as Jerwoods and is for our 10 to 12 year olds. It is split into four Houses providing a boarding and a day house each for boys and girls; Lincoln, Peterborough House, Sargants and Ancaster. In the Lower School we offer full boarding; half our boarders are full time, transitional boarding (from one to four nights a week) or day education.
The Jerwoods environment caters especially for the needs of younger children and offers a secure home from home where each Housemaster or Housemistress plays a crucial parental role. It is important for these young pupils that their days are anchored in their Houses, where they are most comfortable. Each house also has its own Tutors to monitor and guide pupils through their academic work and help maintain regular contact with parents. Age-appropriate challenges and opportunities abound and plenty of activities are arranged at weekends to offer relaxation and fun after the week's work.
As they approach the transition to Middle School, staff help pupils to prepare, giving them the knowledge and confidence to move on.
