schoolThe School Council

The School Council represents the student body, one from each house from each year and is established through volunteering.

What does it do?

The School Council aspires to create a vital link so that students at Oakham may have some influence on the way that the school is run.

The main objective as a Council is to be a link between the students, teachers and indeed the parents of Oakham School. The Council meets formally at least once every half of term to discuss key issues raised by our students. Often these large meetings have the privilege of a guest speaker so the Council are able to discuss ideas with the appropriate member of staff or member of the Community in order to put them into action, as appropriate.

Further to this, small committees are created as required and meet every three to four weeks, each is assigned a different issue in order to create better focus on turning student ideas into action. ‘Greener Oakham’, the Barraclough, Social Events and Uniform are just some of the subjects under discussion.
