Your Choices - boarding, day-boarding or day - International Baccalaureate or A Levels
We offer the choice of boarding, day boarding or day education; whichever suits you best. In our Lower School we offer Transitional Boarding; the option of boarding from two to four nights a week. Whatever your choice, your son or daughter will be able to participate fully in school life and enjoy our great facilities. This flexibility is a great bonus for today's changeable workplace. Take a look at Life at Oakham and browse other pages of our website to give you a taste of all that encompasses an Oakham education. Above all a visit is the best way to experience what we have to offer.
Choices also include the option to study for either AS/A2-Levels or the International Baccalaureate diploma. As the time approaches to make the choice, we offer full guidance to both parents and pupils.
Jerwoods - Oakham's Lower School for 10 to 12 year-olds
Lower School, boys and girls (Years 6, 7 and 8) enjoy the security of a house-based environment which focusses on the needs of younger people while also benefiting from the wider School's exceptional teaching and facilities. Lower School pupils can be full boarders or day pupils, or take advantage of our flexible approach to boarding which we call Transitional Boarding. Children receive an excellent foundation and staff can identify strengths at an early age and help children maximise their potential as they progress through the School. The transition to Middle School is minimised as your son or daughter will already be familiar with both teachers and campus.
Oakham's Middle School - 13 to 15 years
As well as progressing towards GCSE, Middle School pupils are encouraged to demonstrate other strengths, develop personal skills and form their own sense of moral values. By combining discipline with understanding, we allow pupils the freedom to develop their intellect, explore their imagination and stimulate their minds.
The Upper School - 16+
Upper School students have greater control over their working environment. We expect them to take increased personal responsibility for their studies, their progress and their achievements. We expect students to leave Oakham as confident, independent thinkers equipped with the skills to thrive on the challenges of a changing world. Pupils can choose to study either the International Baccalaureate Diploma (the IB), or AS/A2 levels.
