The inspectors have praised the "very good attitudes and values promoted by the school's ethos". Their report also pays tribute to the "outstanding pastoral and boarding care" provided at Oakham School. The inspectors found Oakham to be a school served by a “dedicated staff” which is populated by confident and engaging pupils. The inspection report says good progress has been made since the school was last inspected but further work remains to be done in the monitoring and appraisal of teaching, and in encouraging more pupils to make use of information and communications technology as a learning tool. The Independent Schools Inspectorate is the body approved by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills for the purpose of inspecting independent schools in ISC under Section 162 of the Education Act 2002.
