Charity Fund-raising at Oakham

Oakham takes giving to those less fortunate and in need very seriously and it does so mainly through OSCA, the Oakham School Charity Association. Representatives from each of our sixteen Houses meet two or three times each term to decide on whole school initiatives and to make sure everyone knows of individual House fund-raising schemes. We hold three Non-Uniform Days a year, one of which raises money for the School’s Charity of the Year. This year we are supporting Headway (www.headway.org.uk), a charity for those with brain injuries and their families. Generally, the chosen charity has links with the School community in some way, this year through Simon Hales, an Old Oakhamian who suffered severe brain injury as a result of an accident in his first few weeks at Newcastle University.

Additionally, our major trips and expeditions often include a charitable element; pre-trip fund-raising or voluntary work whilst away. For example Oakham students have been supporting a school in Annapurna, Nepal, since 2007 and have built classrooms.
