Rutland SNV 2DoE WalkingLearning to live life to the full

Our Activities Programme is an integral part of Oakham's commitment to provide a complete education for each and every pupil. As part of the curriculum, we present pupils with a wealth of opportunities and it is by trying so many different activities that they are able to discover where their passions lie and where they excel. Not only that, but pupils can take part in activities that develop qualities, skills and values that stay with them for life. Pupils can change activity each term if they wish.

Stone CarvingThe Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, for example, reflects Oakham's ethos perfectly: it is a major challenge to young people, allowing them to acquire new skills, experience adventure, serve others and work effectively both as individuals and within a team. Oakham is proud to have been the first institution in the world to achieve 1,000 Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards and we know that these Awards are also looked upon very favourably by universities and employers.

Equally, pupils can choose to be involved in more cerebral pursuits if they wish. For example, over 100 Sixth and Seventh Form students choose to take part in the UK Senior Maths Challenge each year.

The activities programme is timetabled for two afternoons a week for all pupils. Boarders not involved in matches will also take part in activities on Saturday CREST experimentafternoons. On one of the afternoons, Third Formers follow a life-skills programme, while those in the Fourth Form and above choose one of the three Service Options. These Service Options are: the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DoE) and Community Service.
